What is Trauma? And How can Trauma-Informed Therapy Help?

When something overwhelming or traumatic experiences happen to us, we may experience emotions, feelings, and bodily sensations that leave our nervous system responding as if the danger is still present, even thought the immediate threat has passed…

This happens because our nervous system can remain stuck in fight/flight/freeze due to our bodies attempts to protect us in that moment.

This can look like feelings of constant dread, fear, anxiety, panic, numbness, shame, disconnection, or even painful or uncomfortable bodily sensations.

These are only examples. but everyones experience can be as unique as a fingerprint.

Trauma-Informed Therapy recognizes the ways past experiences can continue to shape our emotions, relationships, thoughts, and nervous systems. It incorporates tools that support trauma processing, so that we can shift away from past harmful events and towards the things that matter to us.

Here’s what I offer:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Somatic (body)-based therapy

  • Parts Work-Informed Therapy

  • Attachment based therapy

My approach is highly individualized, meaning I integrate aspects of therapy based on each client’s needs, goals, readiness, and preferences.
